Re: Headcanon Thread - Ville

"How" is right, if we're getting into like... paperwork-type stuff. It makes my head hurt if I think about it too much. :D Dude seems to have an okay time adjusting to opposable thumbs, but life can be pretty tricky at times if you don't have the correct documentation. So what happens when you have this human who apparently popped fully-formed into existence?

I mean, seriously. We know he gets a job (or at least, that the twins suggest that he get at job at the Kuikka place), but. What. How. Would Jouko pay him under the table, or what?! (I honestly can't see him agreeing to do that.)

At one point I decided that if I ever write a thing dealing with this, it'll be basically more Kokko Ex Machina. In other words, magic. A slight adjustment to the universe. Ville-the-human has "always" existed, all the correct paperwork already exists, it's just tucked away in a safe place in Hannu's house somewhere.... Because honestly the possibility that there is nothing just stresses me out way too much just thinking of it, haha.

As for surname - I usually go with Viitanen, same as Hannu's surname. I dunno how it is in Finland, but that's how it works over here, your surname is your dog's surname, officially. xD Like, the few times I've had to get medication for our dog, his name was listed on the prescription as (Dog's name) (My surname) - in other words it'd be Ville Viitanen with this example. ;p The surname connection would make the fact that he is living with Hannu easier to explain, because then (after repeated pressure to explain wtf is going on with this guy, how do you know him) all Hannu would have to do is make up some bullshit story that Ville is his... uh... fourth cousin. From, uh, Oulu. Or somewhere else sufficiently far away. Without a tenuous family connection, many of the possible excuses are kind of creepy ("Oh this is some guy I met. Somehow. Don't ask me where. And also he has amnesia or something.") - it's just so much easier to go the 'this is my weird and very distant sort-of family member'.

"Can Ville read" is another good question... I can't remember if canon touched on this? I actually think it might have, but I'm not sure - I'll have to doublecheck (will do, and shall report back - later). If he can read in canon, it's probably just one more Magic Thing that we should just accept as a side-effect of... everything. Generally, when I write him, I have him able to read, though not necessarily with a high level of literacy/comprehension. He can get by. He's working on it.

My go-to when it comes to postcanon Ville: There's a ton of stuff he doesn't know. So many things. Including stuff like how to tie his shoes, and basic arithmetic, and how to tell time on an analogue clock. So many things. But luckily for him, he learns fast - especially after Paju takes a shine to him and realizes how much he doesn't know. She might be a really strict and nitpicky person in a lot of ways, but I think that she would have a lot of patience for people who are eager to learn things and are honestly trying, and that would be Ville all over. So - Hannu would take care of helping him get the hang of lots oof the everyday stuff, and Paju would handle the rest.
