Tuuri fuckin' Easy-Buttons right out of it, damn girl.

How can Lalli be ok moving on with that little explanation, does he even know how long he's been out for?! (Of course, for me it feels like months which it isn't at all in-comic, but still, they have had an eventful time. Someone's going to have to catch him up eventually? somehow?)

Really looking forward to hearing from Onni. I hope it doesn't just bring more pain for these characters!

Seconding what everyone else is saying about being interested in Onni's reaction....

With his usual levels of anxiety I wonder where Onni is and why he hasn't hijacked the radio from Torbjörn yet. Not present because he's babysitting or fetching the demons from kindergarten/school? Crying? Exhausted and still asleep after beating back the murderghost? Up to his eyeballs in painkillers for his ear and actually calm for once? In the asylum after a nervous breakdown?

I really, really hope it's something relatively benign, and Torbjörn almost dragging Onni to the asylum once already wasn't foreshadowing, but I'm a little scared.

I think a nervous breakdown is one of the least likely things to happen.

Dude is probably just off being a failtastic babysitter. Gettin' terrorized by kiddos. Maybe crying because they cut off his mullet. ;p Don't worryyyyy!

Ahaha Onni is so terrible at being a person. He sounds like he's going nuts just by not speaking to Tuuri for a day?? Cmon bro. His expression looks a little bit like a Tuuri/Lalli blank stare, it's cute. I love when minna draws in their family resemblance. (And am I excited that Reynir's on the same page as Onni yanno what WHATEVER)

Mikkel & Onni interaction is something that I never knew I wanted. :)a But now I'm glad that we're getting it.

The existence of this conversation makes me happy! And maybe Reynir is going to join in a bit?

I'm really D:ing over what Tuuri must have put up with all this time. I'm from an overprotective family myself, and since I was diagnosed with a minor health issue a few years ago, they also continuously fret about that (no, thank you, I'm fine. I know how to take my pills and know how to recognize when I need testing to get my dosage adjusted, no, I promise I'm okay), and it makes me want to tear my hair out every ~~time~~ now and then.

What Onni is doing looks worse, and of course I know there is trauma involved at the root of what might otherwise have been normal caring brother-behaviour, but right now... I'm sitting here in awe that Tuuri managed to leave home at all without being eaten alive by guilt. Tuuri, girl, teach me your secrets. ;__;

And probably an earful of bouncy Reynir babbling about magic very enthusiastically. :D I can't wait for Mikkel's {-___-} face.

Yeah, smothering family can be.......really difficult to deal with in its own right, even when it's coming from a good place.

Plus, if what everyone suspects is true, and Onni really did get promoted to parent for Tuuri basically at 16, 17, can you imagine how emotional-developmentally fucked that could have made things? Like bad emotional habits formed early, as a reaction to trauma, with no external intervention? I'm impressed she had time to breathe!

....she's certainly resilient (to have not internalized it), I'll give her that!

He wakes with a crick in his neck and his first thought is to reach for his pillow, wherever it's gotten to. His hand meets naked earth instead and it shakes his balance. It's possible to sleep in one's dream space. He just. Doesn't. Usually.

Usually there isn't an arm around his waist there, either. He takes stock of the narrow wrist, the long fingers and the sharp knuckles under his fingers. The humid breath on the nape of his neck. The warmth behind him shifts. And Onni feels his blood run cold.

"Are you awake?" The question is barely more than a whisper in his hair. "I mean-- you know--"

"I know what you mean," Onni replies, and it takes all his strength of will to drive the tremor from his voice. "I'm. I'm here." Another breath upon his shoulder. Onni isn't prepared to move. The moment he sits up, there is no looking away from this. Reynir watches him push off of his back through half-lidded eyes. Still only somewhat awake, perhaps. And so...

So trusting. As if Onni hasn't just made a horrible mistake. It surfaces in his mind in pockets of memory, like air rising to the skin of a lake. The nails carving furrows in his thighs, Reynir's soft lips at the root of his cock-- he shakes his head to clear the thoughts away. His head swims as he remembers, and the pleasure of it all clouds his judgment. Fingertips on his hip begin to whet the need anew. His heart wavers. And he hungers. Like a beast.

"Stop that." Even to his own ears, his voice is not half as steady as he would like. "This is wrong. We can't do this." Reynir's caresses slow.

"What do you mean? I thought..." His chest swells once as he sucks in a lungful of air. "It was okay, wasn't it? I liked it-- it felt good." He can't meet Onni's eyes as he confesses this, redness spreading across his cheeks and up his ears. "Like I could really show you--"

"You should go." It's a relief that Reynir has already turned away, so that Onni does not have to be the one to do so first. "I'm sorry."

"But I--"

"I'm sorry."

"If it was something I did wrong--"

"Just. Please, go--"

With his hands clasped over his face, Onni waits until he can no longer hear Reynir nor feel his presence beside him. For a long time after he waits, until the lapping of the water below slowly gives way to Keuruu's distant birdsong. Only then does he stand, and begin to gather his clothes.

edit: ok. i recovered a little. oh my god. I love this!!! Reynni is so sweet but it could go bad really........really easily, which is part of why I love it so much. Onni is so self-sabotaging!!! Reynir doesnt get it!!! bury me hereeeeee

YEAH. I wanna try and figure out what about it can go so wrong 'cause I figure they probably have a while where things are really really fragile and doing anything other than Rolling With It brings on all the bad feelings.

Maybe? He doesn't get all crabby and defensive? Maybe he just starts crying because he's happy and conflicted? Maybe he tries to justify it to himself? IDK.

awwwww. yeah that sounds about right. They're both so weird that dating a normal person would be hard, let alone each other lmao. Rolling with it!! the best way.

I did think that, now with this new page, Onni might flip the switch and become overly protective, but I get the feeling growing-as-a-person means not having a new target for the Onni Smother Tactic. STILL!!! I enjoyed. so much. if u write more variations I will love u.

Requesting:

Canon: SSSS

Length: currently at 9,500+ words

Looking for: SPAG mostly, characterization, anything else that pings you are off. Character voices...it's tough because not only is this my first "official" fanfic for this fandom, the story is set fifty years from the current point in canon. Character voices might seem off, but I was trying to see how they might sound older and (not so) wiser.

Additional info: This story deals with some pretty dark and emotional themes. The entire premise is "Lalli loses his Luonto for the final time and it never returns," to give you an idea. There's still a happy ending--a very happy ending--so no major character death, but the fic does deal with illness (it does step into some RL medical procedures.)

I'll answer any more questions privately, so feel free to PM me via this journal! :) I don't want to toss this fic in anyone's direction considering the subject matter, so I'd prefer if someone comes to me first if they are okay with beta-reading this. Thanks! :)
