Lots of things. Too many things. ...Actually, right now I'm having a hard time sitting still, so I've been not-working on lots of things too, but. Er.

Actively working on:
-Giftfic (further details redacted): Technically the draft is finished, but after I completed it my brain sat down and said "I don't want to". So I haven't typed it up for revising yet. >.o
-Exchange treat (further details redacted): I have a lot of plot and no porn yet. This needs to be fixed immediately.
-Ficlet cycle with all of main cast's first kisses: I've finished... one out of six. Writing stuff with OCs (like this one requires) is hard.

On pause:
-Hannu & Ville with ghosthunting: I've been sitting on this story since autumn, and every time I open it to revise it, I make a disgusted sound. I'm sick of this story!
-Sigrun/Emil breathplay - Started this for a challenge, but it doesn't work in only 100 words, damn it. Need to expand this thing.
-Joona/Hannu with choking/smothering and accidental stimulation: I can't decide if it should turn wrong, or if they should just... keep going.
-Ville/Hannu with fluff and food: I love this pairing but it's impossible for me to write, sob. Why.

ANYWAY, an excerpt from something not listed above - I wasn't going to post one, buuuut... Yes. This is from a näkki-Lalli AU drabble-cycle that I've been poking at off and on (and could add stuff to perpetually, honestly).

Inside his dream, the forest was damp and murky, the swamp ever-darker, the cold pools too black to see into.

There were footsteps on the planks. Footsteps that didn't belong there. He had never shaken his old habits.

Lalli sank down into the water and peered upward.

From above came the muffled sound of someone calling him. A shadow appeared. Darkness over the water as he leaned over, bent to look.

Lalli slipped under the shelter of the boards. Didn't answer. Didn't look up at him. Only tightened his hands to fists and fought the urge to pull him under.

Since further info has been redacted from the gift fics, I'll just be over here seal-clapping like the dork I am over the possibility of porn, and really looking forward to the first-kiss cycles. I love OCs, so this is great!

And the AU snippet sounds creepy, but fun. The writing is so atmospheric, it's wonderful.

I was going to write some stuff with Onni and Reynir cramming themselves into Onni's dinky little barrack bunk to cuddle, and even though it is hot and cramped and terrible, it reminds them of old times of cramming lots of siblings (and cousin) into one bed. And, uh. It sort of spiraled out of hand into long get-together fic:


Onni closes his eyes. He spreads his wings and opens them once more. The starry waters beyond his boundaries are clear tonight. For whatever reason, none of the uneasy dead have strayed to his shoals. In the owl's body, he leans into an air current that carries him higher still, one last vantage point from which to survey things. Onni closes his eyes. He rubs at his stiff neck and opens them again. [...]


"Let me," Onni offers, taking the length of his braid in hand. His hair is coarse and thick and heavy on his palm. He teases the end of the braid open with his thumb, carefully, so as not to tangle it more. Reynir's eyes are wide, fixed on Onni's fingers, his lips parted the slightest bit. Three turns to open the plaiting, and he rakes his fingers through its wake to separate the hairs. And then again. If he meets a snag, he stops again to comb it free. Over, and over until his fingertips brush Reynir's scalp. On the nape of Reynir's neck, a patch of skin prickles like gooseflesh.

Only one SSSS fic that I'm actively working on at the moment, and that was prompted by the shipping thread - Sigrun is hurt, Tuuri acts on her crush and kisses her. Things go a little pear-shaped, although so far the focus is on team/character dynamics rather than shipping. I just started chapter three, from Reynir's POV, although I'm having trouble pinning his voice down. Opinions?

"I can't believe I did that! I can't believe she said - !"

In unhappy moments, Reynir thought, Tuuri resembled her cousin more than she was aware, or would be happy to admit, and blurting it out now wouldn't help her either. She wouldn't appreciate it, not when she was so despondent, crouched in the driver's seat and her hands on the wheel like driving away would solve anything. Worse, she'd think he was a terrible person for coming up with inane comparisons. Or not so inane ones. That only made it even more terrible.

Tuuri carried on, looking at him plaintively, and her voice rising into the same urgent, upset pitch she'd used with Lalli when he'd led them to run into that snowdrift, although of course Reynir hadn't understood a word, then. She was using Icelandic now, so she had to be talking to him. "I'm smart! Why didn't I wait? I meant to wait until we weren't in the field any longer! There's time!"

"I thought I was so smart, too, when I hid in that crate. And then it landed me here! I mean -" he could feel his thoughts faltering when she gave him another look, and now she definitely thought he was being stupid. He'd met good people, and Tuuri was one of them! At least she was usually nice to him!

" - I mean, it's not so bad now that I'm here, and I would have liked meeting you, but - in different circumstances. On Bornholm! That would have been nice!"

Hmmm! This fic sounds relevant to my interests. :D

Anyway. Reynir sounds pretty good to me - both sure and unsure of himself, thinking that other people will think he's said something stupid (and then putting his foot in his mouth some more) and so on.

I find writing him really tricky too. D: Good luck!

I think he sounds alright! I guess, one thing that might help is putting in a bit of his motivation to tie his idea of help and his actual comment together? It'd be interesting to see the thought process that gets him to his....unique Reynir-style support. I'd be curious to know if he's trying to commiserate, or trying to assuage her worrying! Especially relative to how much deeper he can dig that hole he's got started!

I have my first ever SSSS fic in progress, which is Reynir/Lalli set many years after canon (both are elders in this story.) It deals with Lalli losing his luonto, possibly permanently, and the experience of withering away and what Reynir does in trying to help him. It's been put on hold because of my RL schedule and other projects going on at the moment, but I would like to go back to this one soon.

Another one is an idea I'm storming up for hc_bingo's Amnesty challenge next month, which usually has a crossover challenge for April. Will also be Reynir/Lalli, with them meeting a character from the Silmarillion, and it will be...pretty dark.

Other than that, other things are just ideas either inspired by some of the prompts posted for pbam or the 100 prompts challenge at the forum. I especially want to build up my OC, Katla (icon of her when she was younger), who I have been having a lot of fun creating. She's an older woman, an Icelandic mage, and one who is always traveling. Grey flicks of hair among the red. The team runs across her during their adventure, and she becomes Reynir's teacher in magic, explaining how he got the rune tools we see in some of Minna's art. But she's the complete opposite of him and is a no non-sense woman who continually wipes the smile off his face (so there's lots of entertainment value for Lalli.)

I don't know what's the likelihood that Sigrun and Katla may have met before the events of SSSS, but I might have them once be lovers (and mentor/student) when Sigrun was in her twenties, but that's where my mind went with some of the pbam prompts. :)

That in-progress fic sounds like something I would totally read the hell out of (possibly while crying). :D Hopefully RL will settle and you'll be able to get back to it.

Whoa, I had no idea there were SSSS prompts in pbam. Thanks for mentioning that; going to have to take a look. *_*

You know I've already squeed about this to you privately, might as well add a public squee, because both ideas are going to turn out fantastic, especially in your hands! :D

And I agree with Yuuago, I'll probably cry a lot as well. (While probably crying with laughter over Katla, I already love her. Stroppy redheads are my favourite, and she sounds like she'd be the perfect partner for Sigrun. :D)

I can't post an excerpt because it's one of the giftfics I mentioned upthread but ugh, I am in a state of screaming right now. I'm writing two characters I'm not confident working with, and I just. Ugh. HOW IS CHARACTERIZATION FORMED.

This is from a long-abandoned fic idea, but I still love it:

It's not long before Lalli's eyes start to droop with exhaustion. He was dead tired on the best of days- the mission had all but flown by his eyes in a drowsy blur, with each death-defying manouver barely registering as a blip on his radar. And while he'd usually be active and bright-eyed (and probably very uncomfortable), these days he had surpassed feeling anything much more than the emotional equivalent of "fuck it".

*sneaks in* I have a little something in the works. Here's my favorite part of it so far:

“Hey, don’t hog all the blankets, Ville! And stay on your side of the bed this time, I’m not going to cuddle with you.”
Cuddling was only okay if you were a dog, apparently. Ville missed being a dog.

From the Sigrun/Tuuri smutlet I'm working on at the moment:

"Right. I'll be in my bunk for a bit now - keep an eye on the perimeter and the clock, let me know if anything comes up, in that case don't come in, just knock. Otherwise no bothering me, alright? Captain's orders."

Tuuri gave her a puzzled look that wasn't puzzled for very long. When understanding dawned, Sigrun couldn't help a smirk. "Yep, that's what I'm up to, get myself some sweet me-time."

Tuuri's blush was getting deeper. Her face practically glowed with it, and she couldn't meet Sigrun's eyes, so Sigrun boxed her shoulder. Tuuri squeaked, jumped, and stared at Sigrun's hands.

There are places it's impossible to go back to. Everyone knows that. And there are places you shouldn't go back to, but you keep returning anyway. Places that ache like an open wound. Places like a gap in the mouth. A lost tooth. Your tongue just keeps finding it.

Hannu eyed up the dream. Took a look at it. Stood outside its shields, on the rocks beneath the unreal starry sky he'd spent too much time under, and looked it over once, twice, three times.

Beside him, Ville shifted from one foot to the other, glancing around apprehensively. "I thought you said that we shouldn't come back here," he said softly.

"I changed my mind."

That's how it always is. You hold on to things. To people. Keep circling around, and no matter what, you keep finding that wound. Even if you shouldn't. Even if it's best to leave well enough alone.

argh I found the notes for my fantasy AU longfic and I want to get into it again......but i realized I'd have to rewrite the first chapter (or bits of it, anyway) for it to make sense. It's the one where Lalli is a hermit in the forest and Emil is from a disgraced noble house and took to becoming a caravan guard.

I need to carve out some time and actually get on a roll w it, bleh.

In terms of WIPs, I have... a lot of unfinished NSFW stuff... but I'm far too embarrassed to post any of them online. :'| Not just because it's, well, y'know, nsfw, but also because I feel like it's not very good quality (and I can't really go up to my friends and ask if they'd like to beta my incredibly gay fanfiction about two or more people doin' it, oh gods). How do you guys have the bravery to put nsfw things online, on AO3 and the like??

Hey hey! I'm actually doing an Emil cosplay soon, and I was hoping someone could help me with his button things. From memory, it looks like he has the main SSSS symbol button, and two tiny ones (a Swedish flag and a little flame/cleanser sign). But I seriously can't find any good references for the little buttons- they tend to disappear in most of the pages. Does anyone have any good page refs for them??

Also- just a fun fact for everyone- in real life, putting up the collar of the coat just makes you look like a frilled-neck lizard. :9
