So far my strategy in this canon has been "something collapses/something attacks" but that might not be applicable in your case, dunno if I would recommend it. ;p

Usually just talking about it with somebody helps - I usually end up hating their suggestions and in a fit of contrariness magically think of something myself.

What kind of story is it?

It's supposed to be a slow-paced, feelings-focused story, but in a canon like this there's no reason that has to be mutually exclusive with things falling/attacking. I'd figured all the conflict would be internal, but that could be.... interesting....


True, true. For all I know, I could sleep on this and wake up in the morning with a brainful of good ideas! Talking sure does help make it feel less insurmountable!

Haa, yeahhh for something feelings-based, it might be that tossing something like that in wouldn't work so well. But then again, maybe it would. Who knows. \o/

Fresh air and moving while chewing through the story mentally often helps me. I also love random quotes in the form of lyrics or poetry to throw at a blockade and see if they resonate in some way. Sometimes that's all it takes to get things moving again, and it if it doesn't then I'll have at least a good sense of where the story doesn't want to go, which narrows down the possible directions.
