Also worried about the tank. I mean, I'm a terrible worrywart about these characters by default, and I still have that wild Reynir theory, but... Sigrun's water adventure felt like a fairly climactic moment, so things may wind down for a while from here on?

Although Minna did say there were still a few weeks of chapter left, right? Eep.

Meeting back up, setting camp, patching up injuries and warming up could totally fill a bunch of pages! Maybe allllll the rest of the chapter is peaceful.

More likely, some more stuff will be blown up, set on fire and/or cut to pieces XD

XD You might not be wrong! If my math isn't totally off or some unplanned delay happens, the chapter should end around April 20 (Minna said she was going for 80-ish pages, we have 17 left), which may leave space for more than camp life and debriefing. We'll see! :D

(And then we'll see Elleth suffer during the chapter break and write ALL the inane fanfic.)

A compromise is also a possibility: Emil tries to start a campfire and it ends up bigger than intended XD

(All fanfic is good fanfic! If you have to suffer to write all the things, then sufferrrrrrrrrrrr mwahaha)

It would even fit in with Minna's penchant for drenching characters - if Emil nearly sets his hair on fire, someone will pour a bucket of water over his head!

I can't remember your wild Reynir theory, if you mentioned it before. What was it?

She did say there were a few weeks of chapter left, but to be fair, one week of chapter is only 5 pages. So it actually isn't that much. I think. Hopefully things will wind down a little soon.

The theory is that Reynir either is immune, or becomes immune, but it needs a few words to make sense:

The thing is, there is plenty of Minna's art around the site (character section!) and especially on her blog that shows Reynir without his breathing mask - at first I thought she just might just not have bothered with it or left it off to better show his expression, similar to how Tuuri's mask lost its kitty mouth emoticon, but in most (not all) cases of him not wearing it, Tuuri wears hers anyway, so it feels more like a hint than a lapse. In some of those images he also has carving tools on his belt, presumably for runes.

Theories:

We know that Reynir's parents lied to him before about illness-related things like lifting the ban on non-immune international travel even when he asked, and exaggerated the infection threat a la "they led me to believe my face would fall off" to keep him home safe, so this wouldn't feel entirely out of line to me. Might be they had second thoughts after their Dagrenning kids left home and went head-first into danger by the time Reynir was tiny, so they resolved to keep their only biological kid home no matter what, and immune status be damned - they'd just need to tell him he wasn't immune to put weight behind their reasoning. Reynir's misconceptions and ignorance peeling away has been a pretty consistent thing in his character arc, so this'd feel like a possible extension of it. It'd also make a neat contrast to Tuuri - also non-immune and kept home against her will by an overprotective caretaker whose authority she had to defy to leave.

The weak point in that - his parents' immunity status is never really confirmed, is it? But in my understanding only one of them has to be non-immune to run the risk of non-immune kids that they would have wanted to avoid, but that would still allow for the chance an immune child as well, I think.

Or all of this is bogus, Reynir is not immune, gets bitten or otherwise infected (as foreshadowed by the Leaftroll encounter) and it ties in with the vaccine plot - Reynir has to play lab rat and pray really hard it has an effect, or accept his life is over. On the other hand, having a working vaccine would change literally everything, so if this is what happens, it might not be until closer to the end of the comic?

Third option, Icelandic mages' magery is tied to immunity, but that is even less substantiated than the rest of the wid guessing here. :D

I hadn't noticed that with the art, but you're right - almost all of it has him without a mask, even when Tuuri is wearing hers.

Probably the first theory is most likely. Eesh, now you've got me wondering, too. :D

Isn't it?! I don't even remember which picture I first noticed it on, but there was a definite oh hey, buddy, you better start wearing your mask moment, and then it only got more and more absent. So unless Minna went back and forth over different concepts in that art, it probably is relevant in some way.

:D And here's the thing with Reynir. Even if my crackpot theory is true, it's the first option, and he is immune, he needs a way to figure it out. Might be either via his parents, but then I think it might already have happened since the authorities seem to have been informed and they probably took steps to let the family know as well. So maybe they're unwilling to give up their leverage, not to mention that Reynir would probably be deeply hurt (I almost typed 'would never forgive them' but lbr that's not an emotional feat he could pull off) by their behaviour. So there might still be an infection scare be coming his way in the near or far future. >:D
